Sonatina for Winston (2016) for cello and piano is dedicated to Winston Merrick Leffler on his birthday, November 29, 2016. The work was commissioned with love by his parents to celebrate his birth.

The music is in three movements. An “aubade” is a dawn song. The first movement begins with a lyrical unfolding: the cello sings over the piano’s tremolando accompaniment. The second movement, “Sunburst,” is energetic and ecstatic. The third movement is expressive and lyrical again, a song at the day’s end as night falls.
