Prophesies (2001) for trumpet and organ was written for and is dedicated to trumpeter Colby Cooman.

The score is preceded by an epigraph from the Bible (Acts 2:17) which provided the extra-musical inspiration for the work. The work begins in stillness and continues to build until its triumphant close.

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,
I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.” — Acts 2:17

The musical starting point for the work was an aria from the chamber opera, See the Promised Dawn Arise (2000). This aria becomes a central section of the work and the rest of the music is derived from transformations of its basic harmonic and melodic material.
