The original version of this work for flugelhorn and organ was written in 2003 for Colby Cooman. In 2023, a version for flugelhorn and string orchestra was created for Richard Kelley and the Chamber Orchestra of Boston (David Feltner, Music Director).

Prayer of St. Ambrose (2003) responds to a prayer attributed to St. Ambrose of Milan (ca. 340–397).

“Lord, teach me to seek Thee,
and reveal Thyself to me when I seek Thee.
For I cannot seek Thee unless Thou teach me,
nor find Thee except Thou reveal Thyself.
Let me seek Thee in longing,
let me long for Thee in seeking.
Let me find Thee in love,
and love Thee in finding. Amen.”
