Canzona V (2014) is dedicated to Neil Stipp. The music is inspired by the instrumental works of the late 16th century. In each of my keyboard canzoni, a different free approach is taken with the form. This festive piece begins with a short opening gesture reminiscent of the music of the late Venetian School (e.g., Gabrieli) and then develops from there in a series of contrapuntal episodes and contemporary modal excursions.
