Meditation on “Palsrok” (2001) was written for and is dedicated to the Rochester Christian Reformed Church on the occasion of the installation of Dr. Russell Palsrok as senior pastor. Also composed for the occasion was a hymn tune, PALSROK (“Our Prayer, O God”; text by Calvin Seerveld), on which this organ work is based. The work opens with a rising and then descending accompaniment figuration in parallel sixths. Gradually the hymn tune is revealed and presented in its entirety over the parallel sixths. This leads to a second section where a modified version of the tune is presented in the pedals (on a 4′ stop) under hushed chords. Following this section, material similar to the opening returns and a quiet coda closes the piece.
